Default On Wylie at day break for cats

Got out on the water at daybreak and started looking for bait. Looked and looked and not one school any where. Realized we had no remote for TM so we went back to Ebenezer for it. We manage to get underway again and found one lonely good size perch so that made 3 pieces of bait. We searched and only caught one small cat on a drop shot. MThook and I made the decision to go ahead and drift seeing we lost so much time. Cut up the bait using the cat fish too! Had enough to set out four rods with two planner boards and to down lines of the sides. Took a little while but we got a good fish on and MTHook landed it gracefully. Though he had a log Drifted a while more and then another, then another and so on. We had total five nice big cats. We didn't have a scale but sizing them to what I saw with CBNC we had a big fish at least 20 or better and the rest fell in the 18 to 12 lbs size. and of course the small cat for bait making six. With my limited skill and lack of bait along with wind and traffic on the lake, I think we did good considering. Hope to make it out again with a little luck we might do better. Grady it was great seeing you and have a good time made the day! Thanks for putting up with me. I'll post some more shortly.

Yeppers, I'd say with only one perch for bait you fellows made the most out of your day on the water.

    Very nice work.

Not a big cat fisherman but would cut bream not work for bait? Seems like when perch are tough bream should be an easy alternative. Small ones seem to hang all around downed trees, boat ramps and boat docks this time of year. Tiny piece of worm, tiny gold hook and small cork and you should make bait in no time if they will work.

Big Dwagg's Flat head hit the perch head, my 2 hit the cat fish filets, I came home sore from the rocking boat, it reminded me why I don't fish holiday weekends too much traffic and people don't know the rules of the road, it's a wide lake you don't need to pass within 50 feet.
It's been a while since I targeted Cats, they are fun when you have bait. We should have gone crappie fishing then we'd have plenty of perch to deal with.
Thanks Big Dawgg for a great day. It just goes to prove even a blind hog finds and acorn once in a while

Hey for only a couple short training sessions from CBNC. I can honestly say I still don't know Jack! It was only luck we came out smelling like rose's. We had the equipment and a little knowledge and plenty of gas. Well at least MThook did! At least we caught a few good fish and were happy we could. It did look grim there at first with no bait and thinking what to do now! I'm learning and I hope Matthew will continue to help me out.
I sort of like this type of fishing.
