Worked all the way up to the dirt ramp. Lots of gar around. Plenty of shad near surface early. They just didn’t bite jigs for me today. Heading to Rabon tomorrow. But I’ll probably just bass fish. First time going there.

Yeah, went today. Nice little lake. Had to take my prop off to fish it. Only caught small bass. Heard good things about it tho. May end up getting a permit for the year.

At the Hill, i marked fish in the 5-10' range in 20 feet or so water. Pulling 1/16 jigs at .8mph. Had 8 rods out. Did you try the Hill this weekend ? Any better results? thx

Depending on length of cast, .8 mph on a 1/16 ounce jig had you trolling below the fish. Your baits were in the 10 to 12 foot range.

Hmmm, definitely couldve been the problem. I always assumed they were 6-8' deep. Guess i need to sharpen up my trolling skills a little more.

Each boat setup could vary. Best thing to do is find a flat without snags (preferably) and cast your jigs out and begin trolling .8 mph towards shallower water. Watch your poles until you see them bouncing and look at your finder. This will tell you what depth they begin hitting the bottom. I would also recommend you do this little study with all you intend on pulling (1/32nds, double 1/16ths, 1/8ths. etc). It doesn't take that long to do and then you will KNOW where your jigs are running when you see fish holding at a certain depth on the finder.

In the case last weekend the aggressive fish that woulda probably bit were probably those holding @ 5' deep. 1/32nds mighta been the ticket that day....dunno. You were probably pulling deeper and those fish never saw the jigs. Maybe none woulda bit but it wouldn't have hurt to tried something different when youre seeing fish. If all else fails then MOVE!! Don't waste you entire fishing trip trying to catch fish that wont bite.

Good advice as always on this board. Especially about different set ups producing different results. For instance, with my boat, the .8 speed with a mix of 1/24 and 1/16 jigs usually does a number on crappie holding 7-9 deep on the graph.

Also if you are marking shallower fish, and you don't want to cut off your 1/16ths and retie a bunch of smaller jigheads, try casting them out only half as far. I've caught shallow crappie with line out no further than the length of the rod. And speeding up a tenth or two can make a lot of difference. Just saying, don't do it the way you always have if it's not working and you are marking fish/bait!
