    Default Keowee

I live on Keowee and never fish it. I drive down to Hartwell. Am I missing something or should I keep on driving to Hartwell? Does anyone even crappie fish on Keowee? It is kind of sad that I don't even fish out my back door.

While I was at Clemson I normally fished Hartwell. We did bass fish keowee a few times and caught some spotted bass. I think overall Hartwell is a better crappie lake, but I wouldn't overlook keowee. There's crappie in there. Way back when there used to be a couple folks that posted up keowee reports on here. You could search and find them. They had some good catches and they were nice fish. If memory serves me correct they were mainly fishing brush. Keowee

I've caught some good crappie in Keowee before. Not the numbers that I have in hartwell or greenwood though

    Default Keowee

Keowee has some good Crappie but fishing for them is different because of the clear water. Up river runs on brush and docks. Never really heard of anyone Crappie fishing the main lake waters but they have to use it and I’n the summer heat that’s a place I would look. I have fished the lake some over the years but I have to many good places to fish closer so have not fished it in a few years. Heck I don’t know the lake good enough to even know the river names lol, Keowee
If I lived on the lake I would spend the time to learn the lake in the off season of the pleasure boaters.

Keowee has never been a numbers crappie lake but the size of fish USE TO give you a reason to fish this lake. The crappie fishing has been on a huge decline the last 3 years to the point they are almost non-existent. The spotted bass fishing has declined also(thought several years ago this lake was getting as good as Lanier with size of fish but size has declined)Don't know the reason.Years ago DNR would do a state of fishery on lakes but they have become mostly useless in recent times

Picked up a few of the "Stump" jigs over at Calyx...

Tried Keowee Friday & Sunday and had no luck on Crappie... couldn't keep the spots and bream off my hooks..

I am determined to find them even though Hartwell, next door is more of a Crappie lake. I am enjoying the challenge.

If the crappie are there looking for them and finding them is almost as fun as catching them.
Keeping searching and fishing docks and structure.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Keowee can be a very tough lake to fish. Like said earlier it's so clear. The crappie are there, just have to look for them. Cane creek, stamp creek, eastatoee and crow creek are good places to look.
Night fishing with a light is the way to go on Keowee. A few years back I fished it a lots. Caught lots of limits and huge fish. My best was 19" weighing in at 3.34lbs.
