Thanks! The canals are what interest me most. i care less than zero about the big O since it has so much nasty runoff from Big Sugar. i know the everglades has world class bass fishing that i need to experience one day! lol

We stopped at a side canal off 27 one day and my buddy and I got out our fly rods. We were using popping bugs hoping to catch bream before the Oscars best them to the lure. Instead we caught bass after bass, all 12-14 inches. Don't know why that canal was different but we must have caught 50-70 in short order before we left. Can't imagine what's in the channel now. That was 5 years ago.

In Ray's first post he mentions Holiday Park. A quick search on the net shows Holiday Park is in St Petersburg, Florida.

I fished with Ray a few years back, first week in April, and fished different canals. We never hit the bass like that, but we did fish out of Holiday Park a lot. Almost any canal we fished had Oscars willing to bite anything we could throw at them. We went thru 9,000 crickets that week in 5 days. We had 8 of us fishing. we'd have the coolers full by 10 to 10:30 every day. We caught over 2500 keeper fish that week. The Oscars would hit anything that was thrown out, even a bare hook at times and even the cork. The most crazy fishing I've ever done.

And I sure do miss Ray, he was such a fine gentleman.

Address is Fort Lauderdale. It is on US 27 just south of I-75.

Thanks for the replies, when I searched for Holiday Park there were several locations. Looks like someone could get off track without using GPS with all the waterways down there

Here is the place that we put in and went out of. There is a large canal that heads out of it. They use to have a camera so that you could watch the boats coming and going but it's been out for several months now. Everglades Holiday Park Webcam and Gator Boys Video Feed We stayed about 75 miles north of there in a small town that one of the fishing guys that you saw on TV every Saturday morning owned. Roland Martin. Don't recall the town. Hope this helps.
