Default Potato Creek Area Lake Marion

Year for last wife and I vacationed in South Carolina for 2 weeks at Lake Murray. Wife loved SC so much she wants to go again. This time around the Santee Cooper Lakes. She found a house she wants to rent in the Potato creek area.

. Looking at Jan , Feb or March. Probably going to be for 2 weeks again. Which month of those three would be best for crappie fishing there. Or is there a better area for those 3 months somewhere else on lake. My boat only has a 20 HP and is a 16 foot Lund. So I have to get rather close to where I am going to fish.

any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Early March should get you on some great Crappie fishing in the Potato Creek area.

Of the 3 months selected, March is best for that area of the lake. If bite is slow, move to the north west Portion of the lake until good spawning activity is located.

Also in late march you just may be able to get in on some striper action as they should be going upriver to spawn.

Ron- would take 3 BIG U-hauls just to move all my fishing equipment. Then I could start packing all my jig tying tools and materials ........ LOL

If the Potato Creek rental does not pan out, there is a nice state park with cabins further up the lake above the I95 bridge. Most of the lake above the bridge is flooded timber so it is a good location to fish out of. You can reach a number of good spots with your boat with no problem at all. Just watch the weather, the lake is shallow and strong winds can make it a rough and wet ride. That time of the year I would not expect that to be a problem, but it pays to keep and eye out.
