    Thumbs up 2014 CrappieFest results

We had a beautiful day on Lake Russell today for our CrappieFest. The day started off with 21 teams signing in for the tournament and a nice cool morning greeted us. It didn't take long for the sun to come out to give us a nice warm day. We met back at the shelter for weigh-in at 12:30 with some nice size crappie being weighed in. No fish over 2 lb but good keeper size fish was caught by all. I am glad to say that the first place trophy came back to South Carolina this year

    Teams could weigh-in 5 crappie
First Place - Team, Stump Hunter & Jonathon total=7 pound 3 oz
Second Place - Team, SC Scamper - Dave Willis - Lynn Willis - Cory Willis total = 6 pound 9 1/2 oz
Third Place - Team, Gabowman & Allen total = 6 pound 1 oz

I want to thank and congratulate each team and person that fished today. A lot of nice looking crappie was caught.

After weigh -in we had our meal and fellowship. Thanks to the cook and everyone that help put this meal together. Thanks to all that contributed to make this years CrappieFest one of our best yet.
We had somewhere close to 70 people attend this year and we hope to top this number next year.

I also want to thank each person that contributed a gift for our door prizes, these gifts help makes these events what they are. I am getting the names together and will post each name ASAP.

Thanks to all that attended, y'all are the building blocks of Crappie.com and our CrappieFest.

We also had 9 kids fishing with us today. The top two crappie that was weighed in was Jonathon with 1 pound 3 oz and Hunter with a crappie .15 oz

Big crappie was caught by SC Camper @ 1 pound 14 3/4 oz
Big Fish was caught by BringingBlood, a bass @ 2 pound 3 1/2 oz

We had one team that had to withdraw once they started fishing and we hope that Brock is feeling better this evening.

I don't know why grownups think these are so hard to catch. You could catch these with your hands.

Our great cooks and the food line. And Butch collecting a big cooler of fish for John's fish fry. (when was it again??)

Thanks especially to Butch and Ronnie for putting this together. Jeff and I had a great time. I may convert him from the dark side yet.(Bass fisherman)
To his credit he did have on a crappie shirt and hat.
Great fun and fellowship and weather too.

My appreciation also to everyone who contributed and participated. Together we had another wonderful gathering. (Although it looks like I'm going to have to find another ugly hat before I can rejoin the winner's circle...)

Looks like a great turn out, the weights were down a bit from the prefishing reports, but a fine mess of quality fish were still caught. Congrats to all who fished, to all that placed, and especially to StumpHunter for bringing home the gold.

It was a great day to be in the boat with my grandson Jonathon. Here is a pic of him with a little smile holding a crappie
