I suppose everyone has their favorite color combinations, my head colors that I use 90% of the time are orange, pink, and blue. Orange is outstanding in stained water. Blue is my choice in the tanic waters of Santee and Florida. Pink, shines in the tanic to clear water conditions of late spring as the water begins to moderate.

Never tried blue heads, but fished blue jigs several times, only caught 2 crappie and 1 striper off of them....granted I haven't given them near as much time as traditional colors.

I act like I haven't crappie fished for 18 years lol. Never hurts to see other opinions. Haven't long lined though
You better use that pink paint, it rocks!

Head colors I like are orange, blue, red and black. I do have a couple tied with pink but I don't have much luck with any pink jigs. If longlining I never pull two jigs at the same time, just don't like dealing with the wrap ups. If I want to fish deeper I tie on a 1/8 oz jig. Most of the winter I will pull 1/8 jigs until the water warms close to 60 or the crappie move up shallow. Then I pull 1/16, don't use many 1/32 jigs either longlining. I can adjust the jig depth with speed to be able to fish the 1/16 in as shallow water as the boat can run in (2 to 3'). If the fish want the jigs slow I will add a float 2' above the jig and longline em.

    Need to pour lots more.

Are you guys really color conscientious on the head? I HATE painting heads but I'm too tight to buy jig heads lol. I need to just build a fluid bed and suck it up even though I despise painting.

Half the time I just use unpainted heads an let the jig do the color work for me.
I pour my own also, I like the powdered paints you heat up the jigs head dip and your done. you can make them almost permenant by baking them in the oven after you dip them just clean the eyes out 1st or you may never get them open back up! Black, Red, Yellow, Green thems by main colors got a couple more but don't use them very often.
    If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D

Ive got powder paint, just not a fluid bed. Makes it a pain to get a nice coat.

Well, since I dont pour my own I have to limit my choices of colors due to prices. My preference is hot pink, bright orange, chartruese green and dark green. I'll also pull unpainted jigheads, especially when the crappie are biting good. I prefer pulling round head jigs and all I use are 1/16th & 1/32nds.

I'm to the point is just as soon buy em as pour and paint. Might do that.

What lb line do you guys like? I really want to learn to longline. Tired of beating docks.

I love night stalking, but want to fish during the day some too :D
