I will fish all of mine out the back if I am by myself and the longest rods I run is 14'. When I have someone to fish with me, like I usually do I will run 6 out the front and 6 out the back. Reason being is because I will add my 16' and 18' rods in the mix. When using the really long rods to cover water it is sometimes hard to net the fish. With the long rods up front you can reel in the fish from the front and have your partner net them off the back. My net is only 12ft long so trying to net a fish by myself that is on a 18' rod is almost impossible.
LOL...taking a rookie with you that wants to reel a fish all the way up to the end of a long rod is impossible to net too.:Rofl:Rofl
Knowing that different style heads pull differently through the water, what do you guys personally prefer?
Wow I would have thought just the opposite. I would have thought the frontal area of a round vs minnow head would make the resistance of a roundhead more thus making it run shallower. Ive got both molds so its no biggie.
Need to pour lots more.
Are you guys really color conscientious on the head? I HATE painting heads but I'm too tight to buy jig heads lol. I need to just build a fluid bed and suck it up even though I despise painting.
Half the time I just use unpainted heads an let the jig do the color work for me.
I prefer round, no particular reason other than that's what I started with and what I know best. Besides that, I have hundreds, possibly thousands of them. I use 1/16 and 1/32. When trolling deeper water I will use two jigs on one line, one on the main line with a loop knot, the other at the lines end. This helps get the baits deeper and makes it possible to catch two fish at one time.
I'm with Ink on the round head preference, and I do think color makes a difference...I have witnessed on one particular occassion a yellow head vs. other colors/unpainted jig heads (caught 3 fish on the yellow head...bam/bam/bam...added 3 yellow jigheads to spread...other rods bam/bam/bam....added yellow jigheads to entire spread...bam/bam/bam...) coincidence? I don't think so.
I always have white, red, yellow, and black in the box, I think I have pink paint too but never use it. Any other particular must haves?
I act like I haven't crappie fished for 18 years lol. Never hurts to see other opinions. Haven't long lined though
