I was just going thru my dad's fishing stuff and found this treasure I thought needed shared with you.Name: loktor.jpg

Size: 77.5 KB He bought this in 1973 at a tackle store for $177.45 We thought we were on top of the world. Dad thought me to mark our way point if I may call it that. He used a baby food jar with a line on it and tied to an old spark plug. I just lowered the plug to the structure and set the jar in the water. We fished around the jar for a bit then took the jar and moved to the next spot so no one else new of our secret spot. Ahhh, remember when.

That Little Green Box was the second thing I bought when I got home from the USN. 1970 was a long time ago. Railroad lantern batteries. Gave it to a friend that never had a depth finder when I bought a Humminbird Super Sixty a couple years later

Rick P there are times when I'm fishing when I just watch the 2D and don't mess with the rest.

A lot of money back in 1973.

If my calcs are close, that would be about $1045.00 in todays money.

Top of the line back in the day.

Old enough to remember the units, but a little young to purchase one.

Yep, our electronics cost a lot now and are very efficient but this old dog don't learn new tricks like it used to. My problem is I read the manual and set it up, go to the next cove and say how the heck do I do that again. I just spend too much time fiddling with it than I get fish. Then I'm tired and just go home. Thanks folks for the conversation and fish on.

As a young college student, I bought a Super Sixty after saving for months. I always took it off my jon boat for the trip home, and one day I accidently set it down and left it at the boat ramp. I was devastated, because there was no way I could buy another. So I wrote Humminbird a letter explaining my situation, and I received a new unit plus a letter from Tom Mann himself, one of my heroes along with Bill and Roland and the others at that time. I don't know which I was most proud of, the new 'Bird or the letter from Tom!
