    Default Factory reset

Roy, I could not get pics of how terrible my SI is on my Helix 10 Gen 2, mega everything. I tried each of the three frequencies and every setting for each and could not get anything close to how it looked before. I did do the software update on both the Helix 10 and the remote but no change at all. I am preparing to do a factory reset. Do I lose my waypoints or just all my settings? I can do a reset on all my settings but I really don’t want to lose my waypoints. Any thoughts? I appreciate your time in advance along with any other insights others might share.

Get you an SD card and transfer your waypoints to the card before doing a factory default reset. I don't think it would erase your waypoints but why take a chance. I also backup mine regularly on my computer using Humminbird PC. I have a couple of thousand waypoints saved. I would cry if I lost them!

I've heard some.talk.about the latest update not being so.good, I haven't done it. Get that SD card and transfer all waypoints to it, it only takes less than 1 minute to do this. Then get a 2nd SD card for saving your screenshots.

Well I did it (I think). I took pics with my iPhone of each setting screen but missed one important one. The one where I tell it what transducer I have. I thought I had it written down when I bought the Helix 10 Mega Chirp everything Gen 2 but not sure if I have the correct one listed in the Sonar listing as I am getting some different screen selections. I reckon I will just go with my best estimate and see how it works out. I did not lose my waypoints but it was a good lesson in saving them to an SD card. Thanks, Roy, for your suggestion. I also added a formatted 32 gb card in the extra slot for pictures. Now have to figure out how to take them and store them on the SD card. Next lesson. I hope to see if it made any difference on my SI. Not sure when I get back on the water and cold front moving in this weekend. We will see. Thanks for all the advice.

Restore Defaults will automatically put the Connected Transducer setting to the xducer type that originally came with the unit ...

Well, darn. I messed with it for an hour and have no idea what it was when I started so I will do another factory reset and give it another shot now that I know what to expect. Thanks, Rickie, you are such a knowledgeable person and so willing to share.

Well, this time around was much easier. Guess I should do these things more often. Everything is reset and I have a new 32gb card to capture photos. Learned how to do that without setting a waypoint (smile). Just need to get on the water to run through all the permutations and settings for SI to see if anything changed. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Well in spite of my learning curve my efforts were for naught (I always wanted to say that). Boxed up my Helix 10 and shipped it back to Humminbird after posting a $325 charge on debit card. Figured that was the cheapest route to recover the SI that used to work flawlessly. Am somewhat off the water anyway with this weekend coming up to tweak deer lease issues then the following weekend deer season starting. Plenty of hogs so will probably hunt them both weekends and looking forward to hog/venison sausage in a few weeks. Once I get the Bird back I will post some pics. Thanks everyone for your advice and support.

Good luck with your hunt. Really hope HB gets you back to the images you were used to. Hopefully they'll give you a report on what they find.

If I was to guess if I would receive a report I would guess not. I have sent both Garmin and Humminbird back for repair/replacement and no report even after I called asking. I assume they are busy fixing and not enough time to spare to recap solution. I am ok with that unless I caused the issue then I would like to know so I do not repeat it. All but this one have been under warranty so I did not have much to holler about (smile). Roy, you were the impetus for this issue, which is not a negative comment but a very positive one. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to post such great shots and descriptions.
