    Default Side Imaging questions

I got a boat a few months ago I installed an ECHOMAP plus 93sv. I’ve been playing around a few lakes using my side imaging, I can see and pick out fallen trees, stumps and stick ups but can’t seem to see smaller brush piles. I have made passes by brush piles I fish and know are there but can’t pick them out. I have played with settings a little but have ran them mostly on default. Any tips on which way to adjust settings? Or is it just a matter of training my eyes to pick out the smaller stuff? Thank for any help

Adjust the side distance to about 40 feet for better close images.

I appreciate it I’ll try that out think I have it set on 60 ft right now. I need to dedicate a day to go out and just play with my graph and not fish but never can seem to resist the urge to fish.

Hang a bait into a brush pile to verify it’s there and drop a buoy on it ...

Then pass by the “known” brush pile multiple times - from multiple directions ...

Try both frequency choices - adjusting gain, color gain, and even different pallet (color) choices ...

Last weekend I had the same problem trying to locate a known brush pile on SI with my garmin 93sv UHD. I tried maximizing screen with smaller scan area and using just one side of boat. I’m really struggling to see them. Down imagining and sonar is easy. Really wanting to learn SI to make it the valuable tool I know it is. My best guess and what I’m gonna try next is slowing the scan speed down more. I fish from kayak and normal kayak speed is less than 3-5 especially if searching. If that doesn’t work I will speed up kayak and see results.

I've read of similar complaints about the Garmin's side image quality as compared to Humminbird and Lowrance.
It seems to be lacking. I know they have made some recent improvements to their UHD transducers.
