Default Garmin 93sv UHD, first impressions and a few pics

I've had it a few weeks; I got it mainly to run PLS on my kayak. I have an Ultra 102sv on the "big boat". The size and weight seems to be is identical to my old 93+, also the mount. I was able to use the RAM stuff I already had. See kayak forum for my install details. The GT54UHD transducer gives me fine pictures, much better than my old 93sv+ and CV52. I have it mounted on the trolling motor.

Lately I've been searching for crappie and bream on a electric-only lake near me. I found a lot of beds with the SV imaging, and I mark the waypoints, but so far the bream have not been on them. The lake only hit 70F in the last week; it was 72 yesterday when this cold front hit. I'm hoping next full or new moon the bream and shellcrackers will be on bed and biting, but I'm having a hard time finding them.

Here are some screenshots. I was asked about why the boat has to be moving for side and down scan, and as long as you understand the beam is very thin, if you sit still it scans the same "slice" over and over so the pic doesn't show anything useful (unless a fish swims right thru it), but if the boat swings around the anchor in the wind, you will see what's there. I anchor near the bed I want to cast to, and as the kayak swings around, the beam will cross the beds, and I can visually confirm I'm on it. A couple of these pics were taken while the boat was anchored. Also, I can sweep the motor in an arc using the tiller, and get a "scan" to confirm I'm on the beds.

I leave the scroll speed on 5 or 6 most of the time - I never use auto. I never fish deeper than 40' (lake goes to 90 feet), so I use the 1120 kHz freq, and switch to 455 kHz if I want to see deep.

Top speed in the 'yak is 3.5 MPH, so I ride around the banks with side scan on, and when I find beds I pause the screen, use the crosshair, and mark the bed (set waypoint). The bream will return to them year after year (just not lately dang it).

A few Livescope pics are in here (v2.41), I'm using the 4/28/20 sw update package. Yesterday I found no bream on bed, and watched a million big crappie in the trees ignore every jig I had in the boat. DOH!

2 bass hanging under boat. I turned, went back, and got one using the PLS.
