Default Helix 7 shopping question please ....

I need some Humminbird Helix advice please ..... I have an older Helix 5 DI on the bow that I need to replace so I'm thinking I'll move the Helix 7 Chirp DI from the console to the bow and get a new unit for the console. I've lusted for a side image unit for some time but I'm an old guy on a budget .... no way I can justify $700 plus price. I've spotted the now discontinued HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2 online closeout for $399.

Is the Helix 7 too small for the SI to be usable?

And I know G3 is better than G2, but is G2 junk?

    Thanks in advance.

HELIX G2’s are still good units ...

Some things to make SI on the smaller screen units usable ...

*Use shorter SI range to make stuff bigger
*Use the SI zoom box to enlarge specific targets (activate and move the cursor to the target and press the + button repeatedly) ...
*Use SI one side only (left or right) in certain situations (especially useful searching for bream beds) ...

Helix 7 inch Si does not have dedicated di. So if a di with Si is important get 8 inch. Helix 7 In si used software to get di image. I changed out my gen 1 helix 7 si with a 7 inch gen 3 di to get dedicated di. 8 inch and above have both dedicated di with Si units.

Thanks, I ended up moving the 7 DI I had to the trolling motor and got a 7 Mega SI G3 for the console.

I have the Helix 5 DI/gps and the Helix 7 Mega SI/DI/Gps. The DI on the Helix 5 is way better than the DI on the 7, that is because (as they have stated) the 7 doesn't have a dedicated DI where the 5 does.

I have the helix chirp mega SI g3 unit, and even tho it's just a 7 inch unit, it's still unreal what you can see with the side imaging, and if you see something, you can just press a button and zoom in to get a better look without having be right on top of it, I can't speak for the g2 models, but if they're anything close to the g3, I would say yes, it's worth having for side imaging

Thanks, I actually did already buy, and I went with the Mega SI G3 that you have, and I like it a lot!
