    Default Garmin Tranducer Questions

    This should be interesting ...

    I have been reading on multiple sites about this, but as a Crappie fisherman, I come here for final results, as I listen to you all.

    I have decided to purchase the Garmin Striker 5 Plus cv.

    My question is this and I hope someone here has experience with this;

    They have different transducers to hook it this. My main focus is the DI. Not SI. This will go on a trolling motor not attached to a boat, so I will be purchasing a mount kit as well for the trolling motor.

    GT vs CV

    People say the GT transducers produce a more detailed and clearer image than the CV transducers. I was thinking of buying the GT transducer and sell the CV transducer.

    YouTube videos are somewhat helpful but they don't really go too much into it.

    Note, I called Garmin and the rep states that unless you are fishing in water 100 ft there isn't much of a difference, but others on other sites state that's a lie.

    @TLE, I saw that. I was hoping someone with experience with them could chime in.

    @Mallard, I won't be using SI.

    So here’s an analogy ... in regards to the GT xducer (with a dedicated DI piezo) and the CV xducer (blended DI from the SI piezoes) ...

    This analogy is valid because a flashlight beam and a Sonar beam both have the same characteristic of being strongest along its main axis (the way it’s pointed) ... and decreases as it gets farther away from the main axis ...

    1. Take a flashlight and shine it at your shoes ... (analogy compared to GT xducer (with a dedicated DI piezo) ...

    2. Take 2 flashlights and shine each out to the side at 30° from horizontal (analogy compared the CV xducer SI piezoes) ...

    Which scenario above illuminates your shoes better ... ??
