    Default Helix update problem

    ALCON
Downloaded the new Helix update to install in my Helix 9 G2N. plugged it into the wall and went step by step to install it, it seemed to install it fine then started to shut down. I had to leave for a few hours and came home to find it stuck in the HUMMINBIRD SHUTTING DOWN screen. since it had been stuck for several hours decided to shut it off with the power button but nothing happened. After trying several time I finally had to unplug it from the wall to get it to shut off. After several minutes I i plugged it back in and powered it back up and it started to boot up then shut down. As soon as it shut down it restarted again then shut down. It continued to do this over and over and the only way to stop it was to unplug it from the power. I called HUMMINBIRD and they said I would have to ship it back and pay a $257.00 service fee and any taxes plus shipping. Guess I will remove it from the boat and go back to using my 1158 DI until I can afford to pay to get it fixed.
They said it was due to a voltage drop even though I had it sitting on the table plugged into the wall ?
So much for a free update

This is a long shot ...

*Remove any map cards from the unit ...

*Insert the SD card with the update ...

    *Power on the unit ...

If it still loop reboots - sending to HB is the only option ...

I recently had that exact same issue with a Helix 9 SI G2N. I called Humminbird and they provided me a shipping label to send it in and they repaired it for free also. Can't beat that service! They replaced the guts and it was like new. Showed 0 hours when I cranked it up.

I would call back and tell them you followed the directions and it croaked. I didn't have to plead my case luckily. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I removed all cards before going though the install and then after install failed I tried putting the SD card with new update back in but no luck. Guess I'll call customer service and see what they say. Hope they are more help than the tech.

Contacted Humminbird customer service and explain that my helix depth had jumped around and never read the right depth since it was new and when I downloaded the software to fix it it locked up in shut down. I was told since it was 2 years old and that downloading soft ware couldn't lock up a sonar that it had to be some other issue and it would cost me $257 for a service charge. Hope others don't have these issues with there software.
This might be a good time to go to livescope lol

Same problem when I tried to update my Helix 7 G3. Mine is less than a year old so they provided a shipping label and repaired for free very quick, but obviously there is an issue with the update causing it.

I've seriously thought about selling all 5 HB'S and going to Garmin. But im not a LS fanatic even though I have fished with several guys that have it. I don't plan on getting one. I'm just really upset with Hummingbird on this issue because they had to know the software in these units were bad when they marketed it. I'll get off my soap box and do without my Helix for now. Happy fishing
