    Default Buying a hummingbird

I’m looking to buy my first fish finder.

I’ve only used $20-30.00 units that aren’t good for much in my opinion. I’m ready to buy a nice unit.

What are your thoughts and opinions on the hummingbird helix 10 g3n mega si di?
My local scheels has them on sale for $1,999

Or is it worth jumping to the 12 for $2,400?

From looking at both it looked like the 12 had a better more colorful picture.

I mainly fish for catfish in lakes and rivers 5’ deep all the way to 50’ deep.

I want to see structure, trees, under docks, holes etc...

I also crappie fish so I want it to be good for that as well. Crappie fishing in lakes 5’ deep and deeper.

What do you guys think of that unit? Is it worth the extra money for the 12? I want to buy once and cry once and something to last 3-4 years before I have to upgrade.

Rule of thumb is buy a big of a unit that you can afford, you won't regret buying a big unit but you sure could regret getting one that is too small. Both the 10 and 12 are nice size units and you'll be happy with either one.

I'd also check with Brian at BBG Marine before I bought a new unit. He's very knowledgeable and he has very good prices.
Between electronics and trolling motors he's gotten several thousand dollars of my money over the years.
