    Default Latitude Question

I just got a Garmin Striker 7sv and still learning how to use it. I have been watching Utube videos to help with learning, so I am attempting to enter some waypoints of some state reefs to get use to how this unit operates. The longitude numbers go in just fine but when I try to enter the latitude numbers in minutes and seconds the numbers over 5 won't enter. Example W 093*26.789 I only get the minute number between 1-5 highlighted to enter. Am I doing something wrong or could there be a problem with my unit? This is not a touch screen unit, you have to press the check mark to enter numbers or letters.

Skippa ... have you tried using a GPS converter site ??

I tried to manually enter GPS coords off a website into my Lowrance Elite 5DSI ... and couldn't get all the numbers to fit. I entered them without the last digit & then checked the location on the converter website. The waypoint ended up being somewhere in a Eastern European country

Come to find out that my unit only recognized one type of GPS coord numbers, and there are at least three different types. I had to write down all 200 waypoints & then convert them to the type my unit would accept, then manually enter them into the unit.

This is the converter site I used : GPS Coordinate Converter, Maps and Info

The example you give is in the format of degrees, decimal, minutes (dd°mm.mmm')

Degrees, minutes, seconds format is dd°mm'ss"

Confirm the default position format your unit uses and then (like Pappy says) use an online format converter ...

I have been having a similar issue. Is there no relationship between latitude and longitude coordinates and GPS coordinates?

"GPS coordinates" are a combined moniker for assigned latitude and longitude position numbers on the Earth ...

Coordinates are points of intersection in a grid system. GPS coordinates are usually expressed as the combination of latitude and longitude.

The Boulter GPS Coordinates Converter has FOUR systems .... Each is a different numerical "system". Each of the four will give a different number system version of the same exact point on a map.

    Decimal Degrees
    Latitude Longitude
    Degrees, Minutes & Seconds

    Latitude Longitude
    GPS

    Latitude Longitude
    UTM
