    Default Navionics Chip?

I have a Humminbird 597ciHD Combo fish finder and I know I'm not getting full benefit from it because I'm a speed bump on the technology super highway. Having said that, I understand that Navionics has a chip I can insert in my unit that will give me better lake detail than what I currently get. My question is which chip should I get? I was looking at the Navionics site and the map for Florida is chopped off right above/north of Lake Lochloosa. I would like to get something showing more north Florida lakes. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

I have the navionics east chip and it has all major lakes in the east region. I bought the south region to use when i come to Florida because the east map stops at SC. Okeechobee is very detailed on the south map but the Everglades are not. The east chip has all the significant lakes in SC on it, so I would think same was true for the south chip. I only fish Okeechobee and the glades

Navionics + Regional South chip .... Marine and Lake Charts (click on the purple circled area) I chose that chip because it covers the entire state of Fla (and a few other states as well )

I also clicked on the "compatibility" and your unit does show up in the HB section.

But, I'd confirm this with someone else before dropping the $$ (or even call Navionics to be sure).

If you zoom down on the Fla lakes on the Navionics link above, it looks to show contours of 3ft intervals.

If you were using this same site or a website connection to it, you may have been looking at the Platinum + chip map ... which does only show Fla. lakes below Gainesville.

When it comes time to buy a chip I search first for the lakes I fish and see if they are HD or not, this determines for me weather I go Navionics or LakeMaster. I try to stay with LakeMaster as I have I-Pilot Link but some lakes just suck in LakeMaster just as some lakes suck in Navionics.

I'm beginning to learn enough to be able to check on-line reviews and I have read some bad reviews of Navionics. I understand there can be a bad item occasionally but what seems to be pervasive is that when someone has a problem with Navionics their customer service is not that great. Yes, no?
    Thanks.

I just went to the Lakemaster list of Florida lakes and the ones I fish are listed. But they're only listed as Standard not High Definition. There are very few High Def lakes listed in Florida compared to other states such as Alabama and Kentucky. What is the main difference between Standard and High Def? Closer contour lines?

LakeMaster Standard definition is general 3-10ft contours and may not have been mapped by LakeMaster ...

LakeMaster Hi Definition Survey is 1ft contours and mapped by LakeMaster survey crews ...

I looked at the Navionics demo at the Cabela's Outpost in Augusta this past Saturday courtesy of the Lowrance rep who was there. I was mainly interested in the bottom features of Orange and Lochloosa lakes in Florida. Basically what I saw on the demo was just a map of the lakes with depth contour lines. Is that all I get with a chip? If so, I'm trying to figure how dropping a chunk of change for a chip is gonna help me since I got a hard copy map of those lakes with depth contour lines. Thoughts? Thanks.
