Default Question concerning Helix 10 mega gn3

Finally got to put the new boat in the water today and I've never had a unit this nice. So my question is once I get over 7mph my depth reading goes nuts and the side imaging only works when I'm going 5 mph or less. Is that normal?

What's your chart speed set on? May need to set chart speed to highest setting

Can you post a picture of where your transducer is mounted?

Default Question concerning Helix 10 mega gn3

You are getting cavitation (aerated water = air) flowing off the hull and across the xducer face ... (Sonar cannot read thru air) ...

*Lowering the xducer can help ...
*Tilting the back of the xducer down about 2° can help ...
*Moving the xducer toward keel can also lower the xducer into the water more ... but don't get get in front of the lower unit water intakes which can cause cavitation into the lower unit intakes which can cause outboard overheating without proper water intake ...

While it is possible to get some side imaging at faster speeds - the SI Sonar technology is designed to operate best at idle speed (or slower) ... (which in effect slower speed also creates less cavitation off the hull) ...

This is SI cavitation issues (black horizontal lines are basically "loss of SI data due to cavitation (air) flowing off the hull" ...

If speed and 2d are your main concerns while on plane raise your SI ducer (which will protect it, they are $$) and mount a 2d high speed ducer with a Y cable! Chances are you will not be happy with the "rooster tail" you get from lowering the SI ducer.
    I know I wasn't.
