Garmin gets beat up some on the forums for their standard imaging but the last image shows what you need to know, they function as designed. The side imaging isn't great but I still used it in a new area to find all these fish when I figured a new pattern out.Name: 160119_0913_00_LI.jpeg

I think those are great, not the sharpest but all the information needed is there. You are finding some nice schools of crappie!!

Yes the necessary info is definitely there and please understand I didn't post these to say they were the clearest or better than any other brand. Basically just posting them so the guys interested can see they are functional and Garmin definitely has its weaknesses and strengths like all the brands. But considering I have less in both my units combined than one Mega 9" or Lowrance Elite series much less one of the flagship units, they do a pretty good job. I have contemplated switching brands for mapping and a little clearer side imaging, but hard to justify the cost.

I'm sorry I didn't mean that as a knock to Garmin. What I meant is everyone gets caught up in the sharpest or best image available but yet all that's not necessary to find and catch fish. I have Mega units but I don't catch any more fish now vs when I had a 997 just prettier pictures, the reason I upgraded to Mega was for dedicated down imaging because the blended down from side imaging is terrible and no where near what you posted.

No I didn't take it that way at all, just clarifying my intentions.

One reason I moved away from Hbird core to Garmin GT for the same reason, the Hbird core series down imaging was terrible. Just no comparison between blended xducers and true down.

Those are great images! I’d say the results speak for themselves!
