Default Side imaging transducer on the trolling motor

Does it make sense to run a side image transducer mounted on a trolling motor? My way of thinking is unless the motor and transducer are pointed straight ahead then you aren't truly getting a side image picture.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

Me personally would not be with out SI on the front. I fish a lot of suspended schools of Crappie the ones most people cannot find unless just happen to run over them with 2D or DI. Many times I find the biggest Crappies are not in tight schools that most people would not notice with regular 2D DI because all they see is one or 2 fish. With SI I can see how many fish are actually there all scattered out. There maybe only 5-20 fish in that loose school but every one of them will be big.

That’s correct, I do most of my fishing on the front so when I purchased a unit for the front of my boat I wanted si,di, and 2d up front where I sit, as much as my trolling motor turns the thought of distortion of images was too much ciphering for my brain. I chose to use a da-ducer apparatus from Podunk. Been happy with this because my transducer stays perfect all the time. There are a few other companies out there that make something similar, but Podunk is the best in my opinion. Stores easy, deploys easy, and built solid.

I have the BowDucer from fishingspecialties.com and I love it! I have not have any issues with it. It does not look as heavy duty as the daducer but I’m not ramming into stuff with mine and it cost less and takes up less room.

I had the trolling motor mounted transducer that got ripped apart when the cable snagged while follow the contour mode. The image was always getting blurred or skewed when turning also. It was one of the best investments I made. Anything other than trolling motor mount for side imaging is better in my opinion.
