Default Helix 10 Mega Gen 2 images showing wrong depth

I recently remember another posting about the “bird’s” problem with showing depth twice as deep as it really is. Is this a software glitch or something we expect to be fixed soon? This is happening more often and I can readily see the actual depth is 1/2 of what is on the screen but my OCD kicks in occasionally (smile).

I am afraid my ocd is fulltime... Its a glitch but they tell you its your fault, bad settings, and tell you how to work around. I was told by an HB person she knew of no updates to fix the issue. I posted my discussion with HB about the issue at BBC, Bass Boat Central. There is plenty to read over there and other forums...

Try turning off CHIRP 2d in the "CHIRP Configuration" Menu under the Setup tab ...

Then in the Beam Frequency Menu under the Sonar tab select 200kHz only ...

It's a bug ... We all know it ... HB has not acknowledged the bug as of yet ...

On my Helix Mega 9, upon this posting, One time, I had a issue with the unit showing double the depth and it was in muddy water and it was in 16 ft of water showing 35-40 ft deep of which was the wrong depth. . This morning in heavily stained to light muddy water, the Helix Mega 9 went crazy while I was in 10 to 15’ of water, and the depth would show 300’ to alittle over 2000’ ft of depth. In a spilt screen mode, The SI was set to 60’ on the side view and it was on the top with my DI on the bottom showing the deep depth settings and no pic of the bottom, but the SI was showing normal on the top half of the screen. I reset the unit 4 times over a couple of hours of trying different settings hitting default setting each time and completely resetting all the settings each time, and back to 200 to 2000’ it would show again. In sonar mode, it would show the depth say at 2000 ft and all verticals lines of dots but no bottom or any fish or anything. I turned off my other 2 depth finders thinking maybe they were somehow interphasing or something. That didn’t effect anything. I would shut it down and unplug the depth finder, wait 5 minutes, plug power chords back in and turn it on, and it would start up in the deep depth modes sitting in 10’ of water and finally on the 5th resetting of the depth to finder back to its default setting, it worked perfectly showing the right depth as I reset all my personal settings and ran it for over 45 minutes as perfectly as you would want it to work. Any comments would be appreciated as I plan on eventually calling Hummingbird to ask what the heck is going on. I bought this Helix Mega 9 last August and haven’t had any real issues with it showing the wrong depth till about a month ago for the first time till this crap this morning happening. Very frustrating to say the least.

This is the best read I find, with settings changes and explanations of multi depth reads the depth, finder is giving in shallow water and hopefully will work as I changed my settings and will see next time out. Rickie is spot on also. You need to register at bbc to see some of the replys from Hummingbird and screen shots and it’s very easy to join.

    New false depth settings
