Default Helix 5 w/ side imaging

Thinking of pulling the trigger to buy --- I currently have a bird 383 CI this unit will not save waypoints - says it has to have the map card , probably with micro chip --- however the book says this unit will save waypoints -- reading online the Helix w/ side imaging does say the same thing and it has Unimaps installed ... and a SD Card slot ... Does uni- maps show Contour lines or do I still need to buy the Map card for this Region

My helix 7 has the uni map and it does have contour lines but there not very good. I think there at 10' intervals. Nothing like the card. The card is a lot more detailed

I have a Helix 5 up front on the bow and a Helix 7 on the console. The Helix 5 is really too small for SI and for navigating at planing speed. It is big enough for DI and spider rigging navigating speed along contour lines and waypoints. The map card is a must, the uni map will not help you find contoured structure.

Waypoints should be able to be saved regardless if there is a map card in the unit by pressing the Mark button ...

Is there a white popup when the Mark button is pressed ...??

Don't know if HB units are the same, but my previous Lowrance unit (Elite 5DSI) did have some contours on the base map ... but, only for one small lake that I fish, and the contours were in 10' increments (7'-17'-27'-etc). And I never had a map card, just the base map, and waypoints could be entered and would show on the base map. If the unit has GPS, waypoints can be entered & show on the map (be it the base map or contour map from a SD card).

Yep - on the white pop up --- Not much difference in the cost between the 5 and 7 inch screen but still need the map card for Contours of 1 foot -- required in D'Arbonne -- So adding the cost of the map card we are at the price of the 9 inch screen / with 1 ft contours already installed instead of uni-map --- Twice the screen is easier to see instead of buying then upgrade because old eyes do not see as well

None of the HB units come with built in mapping with 1ft contours ...

5 and 7 inch units come with built in Unimap - which is Lake outlines only ..

9, 10, and 12 inch units (and ONIX and SOLIX) come with built in Contour XD - which is a limited amount of lakes with 5-10ft contours ...

You will need a map card for 1ft contours in any HB unit ...
