Default Helix 7 si gps combo

I'm about to spring for the Humminbird Helix 7 si. I'm curious how often you all are using the SI to find fish as opposed to finding structure. I see a lot of examples of images of fantastic structure shown on SI, but I often don't see any fish and I feel I know what I'm looking for in terms of the light colored slivers though they are pretty hard to spot sometimes.

I figure if I see good structure I'm gonna fish it for a bit regardless of whether I see fish.

I have found that if I set my side image range to 40' and no more than 60' on each side that I am able to see fish better on my HB 899 unit. Look for the rice grain slivers with shadows showing off to the side on the bottom of lake. This is fish some what off the bottom of the lake water column. The more you use your unit the more you will learn what you are seeing on it. Remember tho that the further the range the smaller the images will be especially on the smaller screen units. You are right good structure is always a good place to look for fish but with a little practice with your new Helix 7 SI you will be able to find and see fish on this structure. Hope this will be a help to you I am just learning all this myself. Good luck with your new unit and I will be looking forward to seeing your fish and sonar pictures.
Be safe and good luck fishing

The new HELIX line info is just beginning to leak out ... (G2 and G2N) ...

There will be interesting pricing on previous HELIX units ...

Or, it you're one for new stuff ... HELIX 5 G2 is already available ...

HELIX 7 G2 and HELIX 7 G2N (with networking) will be out very soon ...

Bass Pro has a smoking deal on the Helix 7 for Black Friday. My only complaint, I wish the screen was bigger. I don't remember if I got the hd transducer or not, but you should. Fine details are hard to see on mine, maybe it needs to be set differently.

Wow, that is awesome. Looks like the new 7's will have Ipilot too to go along with networking and chirp. I got a Helix 5 SI/GPS this summer and already want a bigger screen so I can simultaneously view SI, sonar, and DI or cartography together but it just doesn't work on that screen size.

Will the new 7's network with the larger units? I'd love to upgrade the stern unit to a 9 and put a 7 DI/GPS on the bow.

Thanks Rickie, I didn't realize there was a separate G2 and G2N series. I guess to make my question more clear would be to ask if the Helix 7 G2N would network with the 9, 10, and 12 G2N and the also if the Helix 7 G2N would network with the 9, 10, and 12 Gen 1's?

Yes ... Helix 7 G2N will network for Waypoints, Accessories, and most Sonar ... (fixed and CHIRP) ...

HELIX 7 G2N will not share Mega Imaging (the new 1200kHz) from the HELIX 9 SI G2N or higher ... from what I understand so far ...(this may be verified different as more info is released - details on this exact scenario is sketchy right now = 7 G2N networked to 9 G2N or larger) ...
