Size: 31.1 KB Here is a pic of how the xducer is mounted. Do you guys think I need to lower it. I had it lower at one point and moved it back up a little, at higher speed it was shooting water up by the motor. What do you fellas think?

I think it needs to be lower. Trim the motor down and take another picture.

There are 2 advantages to upgrade to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T xducer...(using the 899)...

    1. Added 800kHz imaging frequency...
    2. SI piezoes are physically longer ...creating a thinner slice ...which will render sharper detail...(in both imaging frequencies) ...

    gooseslayer,
If you are happy with the 2D sonar and the Si sonar in that location then its good and I would not move it. If the 2D does not work well at high boat speeds or the left Si sonar gets partially blocked by the motor; you will need to lower the transducer downwards again. If you are getting a water shooting up from the transducer try installing the rubber plug that came with the transducer.

Pretty sure you're right about the sensitivity on different types of bottom, another thing I always do on a 898 is to remove the readouts to give me a little screen to view.

Press Menu 1 time to open the Xpress menu ...and then choose SI Enhance...

This will overlay the SI Enhance menu at the bottom of the SI image...where the SI Sensitivty can be changed readily as the bottom composition changes...

Don't worry about a specific number in SI Sensitivity...just raise or lower the Sensitivity until the screen gets to the brightness level that looks good to your eyes...

The SI Sensitivity is the most used setting in my unit...

I had to bump the Sensitivity all the way to 19 to get the SI image bright enough against this mud bottom...

Is the 899 capable of 800 kHz with the HD transducer? The operator manual reads like it's limited to 455 kHz.
