Default All HAT and no cattle.....

Old Texas saying fits this guy. And to think he had the nerve to make fun of my hat last year.

Just goes to show you old dogs can learn new tricks.

And speaking of new tricks (Dang I hate to share this one) oh well here goes.
Sometimes when the bite gets tough you can perk things up with a change of bait & hook size. The small bait shown below is a "Slab Bandit" 1.25" on a 1/16 oz jig head with a #8 hook. That's right, a #8. It barely sticks out of the body but believe me (Guy does now) it will hook the fish and rarely hangs the brush. (And if it should hang up the light wire hook pulls right out most of the time) Keep the net handy for the big ones.

The other bait is a "Slab Bandit" 1.75" on a 1/16 oz jighead with a #6 hook. Also deadly and comes thru the brush well.

Another hint. I use 10# or 12# white braided line with a 12" leader of 8# mono or florocarbon. To attach the leader I use a #12 (Very tiny) swivel. The white line is marked at 12' and 17' with a magic marker. Really helps to know exactly how deeo you are getting bit.

If you doubt these hints just ask someone who's been with me lately. There's lots of sore butts around right now from being kicked.
    Good fishing.

I don't use braid but do use a small barrel swievel 18 to 24'' above my jig. The big jigs I use cause twist on occasion. I've shown a few that trick after hearing them complain about line twist causing wraps on tip of jig poles. Like they say even an old dog can learn new tricks.

Good looking jig, I'll have to look it up next time I'm at Bass Pro. That hat is especially good on those bright sunny days when you feel like you're beginning to cook. The slighest breeze seems to get thru.

Bronson I'm not sure but i dont think that bass pro carries the slab bandits. They are made by a company named Crazy Angler Tackle. They have a website, thats where i order mine from. you can find the website with a google search.

Ernest, I enjoy your posts. Do you still have the same boat as in your dock shooting video or a new one?

I fish in a 17.5' Lund now. That old Kingfisher was a great boat to fish from, just not so great to ride in on a windy day.
    Good fishing.
