    Default New to Crappies

    Hi-

I'm brand new to crappie fishing, but have fished for bass for a while. I have no idea where to start, but I figure that you guys could help me. I want to know about lures, using minnows, and some good tips. I mainly fish around a small pond with some submerged structure and weeds. I also fish a local river, but don't know what to when it comes to fishing for crappie.

    Thanks for the help

    1. Take your favorite light spinning rod capable of handling 4-6 lb. line.

    2. Tie on a 1/32 or 1/16 oz. jig (marabou, plastic, or hair) in chartreuse or white.

    3. Cast, count down to the depth you expect the crappie to be, and retrieve slowly.

That's the method I've used for about 30 years now. Works for me!

Default To all people wanting to learn more about crappie fishing

The best all around book on crappie fishing that I know of is the In-Fishermen Book "Crappie Wisdom". It covers all aspects of crappie fishing thoughout North America. It covers the who, what, when and where of crappie fishing.

Now there are other books out there but I would get "Crappie Wisdom" for my library first.
