The post slides into the opening in the middle of the base and is secured with the round knob.
The post diameter that fits this mount should be 2 3/8 inch.

If I remember correctly once the unit is powered on push the power button again and on the next screen you should be able to either lower/raise the brightness, put in standby, or night/day mode.
