When crappie do this or that depends on more than one factor, when it is April in Missouri, it is December/January in FL. Once the spawn is over, they tend to scatter.

In my experience, MinnKota service is an oxymoron. Call their customer service and they will give you a list of certified MinnKota repair centers near you, or your friend as it were.

If you have the time and inclination, fly, or jig tying is fun. I used to tie flies. I did some wooly buggers, took them to Alaska, and caught salmon on them - that was a good feeling.

I have an inline switch on mine. When I turn the unit off after fishing, I turn the power supply off also.
