chicot lake is a hard lake to fish sometimes,i have fished it for over fifty yrs. and it is rare that i do not catch a mess of fish when i go.
although i must admit some times it is a mixed bag....

i use the feather light 6.6 &7 foot ,i push 9 and 10 wt DT/F on these rods . i find it takes a heavy line to load these rods up .
of course i an roll casting under timber,no double hauls. i bought...

i went 5/12 caught some nice gills,looks like they have bedded out,still a few at the beds.green sinking spider,flyrod of course.

still catching chinks and gills,some nice fish,took out 20 friday 1st,let a lot of 7 and 8 inch fish go.

the wind was rough,but i caught some nice fish gills and chinks,green sinking spider#4.
the water is still muddy in spots and the lake is still high ,but the fish are there.

caught a few this am ahead of a front moving in from texas,they where suspended in 3 to 4 ft. water,around cypress and tupelo gum trees. cought them on a dragon nymph,some nice fish.

i use hooks from #2 to #8,my wife uses a long shank #2 for gills and chinks with live bait .
i tie a few flies for gills and chinks in #2,but most of my larger flies are tied with #4s. i tie a lot...

i have caught stripers on casting rods ,but i bet they are a kick on a fly rod,some of the hardest fighting fish found in freshwater.

OKSTATEjiggy we have a few streams that get fast after a quick rain,or as in chicot lake ,chicot bayou runs through the lake.
when the spillway is running the bayou gets real fast,and mending line...

i guess if you are visually impaired a strike indicator is ok on a fly rod.i have never used one fly fishing i would thank they would make the cast a little awkard.

i fly fish for chinks and gills like mowing grass,i start on the edges ,and work my way out to the middle,or vise versa.

i just bought one of these with shipping it was almost $900.00,it does have an internal gps internal antenna though.
i can tell you that this is one great unit, and the side scan is awsome.

i skin mine,i know it sounds crazey but i can skin'em as fast as i can scale'em,m father,n law skined his fish as mother'en law would not eat them any outher way.

i fish chinks pre spawn and post spawn deep,i use weighted flies .dragon nymphs , scuds(freshwater shrimp) and blood worms(midge fly larva).
chinks are bottom feeders and eat a variety of...
