I do open and close the bail of my spinning reels by hand, though I often wonder if I spool the reels correctly. Does a swivel do much for such a light weight lure like a crappie jig?

Lets say a just is pulling an 1/8th oz jig with a 1/4 oz trailing weight. Roughly, how much line out will keep the setup around 15' deep at 1 mph? 20' or more?
