Some days they just won’t hit unless it’s moving at a certain speed ( jigs ) . I guess they like the chase sometimes. I like catching them like this because they usually smash the jig.

Are you talking about long poles ? 10 ft or more ? If that’s the case and you fish fairly shallow the Slater Ice fishing reel is what I prefer. Super light weight, tough and fool proof.
