That was not something I really even considered. You may be on to something though. With all your weight on the lid center I can't see how it could possibly open. May look in to a better latch...

They get warm, not unbearable though. You can get them at Lowe's or somewhere like that. I think that took like 3 of the 5'x6' rugs. They are heavy, probably 30lbs each or so.

Those are a heavy recycled car tire rugs. I bought rugs, cut to fit, and glued them down. Really quiet and seems to be pretty durable. Cheaper than hydroturf and way better than carpet.

I ran all my wiring in the rub rail. Not sure about the new ones but mine has a rubber strip inside the rail. Remove it and there is a lot of room in there for wires.
