Good safety info here. It is always a good practice to "pin" the latch on the ball. I use a locks, but anything (bolt etc) is better that nothing to prevent a latch mishap on the road.

You might consider adding some canning salt (1tsp/gal) to the bucket. It helps with longevity.

I have the Cabelas version in 7" and they are fine if you have very clear water. Depending on how you use it (ice,boat) consider a clamp of some sort to prevent camera spin from the cable.
