If the lake had ever been stocked with the cats or gills at some point, perhaps there were some crappie mixed in the truck tanks and they were put in with the other fish?

My only concern is I will need to be fishing from shore since I am traveling for work. I'm guessing with all the submerged brush and trees there shore fishing will be way less productive.

Our family does very well with the BPS Tournament Series Squirmin' Squirt tubes in the 1.5 inch length. I usually put them on a 1/32 - 1/8 oz round jig head depending on conditions and depth....

Gulp Alive minnow work great for me! I usually put them on a 1/16oz. or 1/8oz. jig head. The only complaint I have is that darn liquid they are in, that stuff makes a mess and stinks up your hands....

Most likely this was an effect of the algae and decreased oxygen levels in the water. Perhaps crappie are more susceptible to this than the other species? I know largemouth and catfish can tolerate...
