Humminbird units create many track-points, so I often will take those tracks into Google Earth to remake them with less track-points when possible. I will adjust the track or straighten the track...

If you can make a route with 20 waypoints, you can have a track with 20 track-points. And a track can have 20,000 track-points.

IMO your problem is with the GPX headers created by GpsBabel since you last method worked when you copy&pasted into a newly HBPC created GPX file.
