Was his view obstructed? Possibly, but myself, I won't draw any conclusions based on a video or picture. As I stated previously, maybe he could see just fine.

I have seen them mounted directly to the boat in various ways. The downside is manual deployment.

Sounds like it is a storage compartment, not a livewell. I would want to make sure it is strong enough to hold water. If it has a drop-in liner I wouldn't attempt it.
