Depends on water clarity for me.
If it is dirty and I stay close I use a 5'6".
If it is clear I stay out further and use a 8'.
All Ozark of course.

I use the little bait casters same as my dipping rods. I like the small profile. They seem to not get tangled like the larger I have used.

I was fishing at sparrow foot a couple years ago. I broke ice two inch thick the whole time.
When I was about to leaving I heard a boat running full speed. Sure enough an older guy(80’s) pulled in...
