Cedar trees attract and hold more crappie but you will get hung up in them. PVC or stake beds work ok and you don't get hung up in them. A light source that remains on at night will also help.

yes, Crappie turn white when they stay out of sunlight but the longer they are exposed to sunlight the darker they get.
