When I receive most "special sales circulars" from BPS or Cabela's I find they are

Also look into using line counting reels and snap weights.
Even if you elect to not use that certain technique - it cant hurt
to learn more stuff over the winter.

I've always done pretty good with long lining for Crappie.
You won't catch as many but they are usually larger.
I use both jigs and Bandit Crankbaits - cruising at .50 to 2 mph.
