I caught some back on 5/15 and they had eggs, but definitely not "full" of eggs and they were almost gray/whitish in color.

I caught some last week, still suspended @ 6-10' over deep water near shore. Females had egg sacks that seemed smallish, not full and ready to spawn. Surface temps 60-71 degrees but I have no idea what the temp is 4',6' or deeper. They simply haven't spawned yet. But I'm in Western NC, fishing deep mountain lakes so everything runs later up here.

do you know anything about Saluda? I went there long time ago trout fishin when we finished we stopped where water was running out of A rock right on side of the road and dressed our fish. I would like to go back if I could find the place.

Yeah I know a little about the area, I don’t live far away. If you caught trout you were probably in the Pacolet River along 176 between Saluda and Tryon, or down on the Green River. Both of those rivers have trout. There’s a scattering of other smaller feeder creeks that hold a few trout too. I’m somewhat familiar with those but admittedly I’ve spent very little time trout fishing there, most of my trout fishing has been on other streams at higher elevations. What little fishing I’ve done on those two was 30+ years ago.
I don’t know about the water coming out of the rock on the side of the road but if it was either of those two rivers; if the road was paved it was likely the Pacolet along Hwy 176. If it was a gravel road it would have been the Green River along Green River Cove Rd.

thanks Bigtrout we were in small creeks and my buddie said we were catching native trout. I don't know that was the only time i've been trout fishing but both of us caught a 7 fish limit each and had a good meal out of um. this was around 1978 or 79 so its been a minuet since i was there fishing but i have made a couple day trips through there since than. thanks again bud maybe our paths will cross someday good fishing and blessings to you
