Default Bite in Lake Wylie Today

    Greetings,

I am a new member and fairly new fisherman. I ran into Fisherfore at Lake Wylie yesterday at Ebenezer Park and he suggested I join the forum. I fish with my 11 year old son ( who is actually the fisherman, I am mainly transportation and navigation ). Would anyone mind sharing where the byte is today? I will be heading out on the water in a couple of hours.

    Welcome aboard boom_baby.
Glad you found the site and joined up. Hope you and Zachary caught some yesterday.

Not sure where they are bitting at since I didn't catch but 3 crappie yesterday, and few catfish.
I would say up in Torrence creek.
Just try different depths and use your trolling motor to move. Around slow. Once you find a few you can try anchoring and see if more will be willing to bite.
Good luck, stay safe, and hope y'all catch some.

Welcome to the zoo! Just kidding these folks on the SC board are real good people. I could have told you a week ago but the bite is slowing down a little. If it were me I'd head to Big Allison or Little Allison and slow tight line . Big A go to the power line near the Hwy 274 bridge and slowly move around the banks at 18-22 foot of water. It gets shallower moving toward the bridge so you need to adjust every so often. You can cast to the bank with a float and minnow and slow retrieve back to the boat and get some.
You can go to Little A and do the same or check out the boat houses with a single pole and jig or minnow and split shot. People put brush close to their piers and boat houses. May get a few there. It was slow for my wife Saturday where we went. Most fish seemed to have lock jaw or it was low pressure holding them back. That's my excuse for it. Good luck to you and if you are set up for night fishing come on out and join us this coming Saturday night. It's posted on here.

I went and battled the wind yesterday morning in Torrence. Pulled baits in every depth range possible. Marked fish, whether they were crappie or perch, dont really know. They were on a transition from 18' up to 15' but they were way down in the column. Only caught a few and threw them back. Good luck.

Welcome aboard! Some good pointers with Dawgg’s post. We caught em Saturday on tight lines and jigs. Bunch of small ot. But slow troll with minners from 10-20 fow. Stagger your baits depth in the water as you go.

    Greetings,

We tried Big Allison first, but I was not trolling it properly and got nothing. We moved to Torrence Branch and caught a mess of them there along with a spotted bass. I need to figure out how to control my depth. I run a 1/24th ounce jig about 20 to 30 feet out at around .6 mph. Was shooting for 6 to 8 feet, but I don’t don’t my weight/speed combo to calculate my depth. Probably a web site out there that will tell me.

Find yourself a nice flat of 5 ft and experiment speed, cast, jig, until bumping bottom ... do the same on a 10ft flat. 20 ft. As much as you care to experiment

My best Wylie fish always come somewhere between 10-20 ft in 15-30 ft of water

Welcome to the forum. God bless

Also, read the post on long lining on this forum at top of the page. Helpful hints there on how to get fish in your boat. I had help a long time ago when they had the tournaments on Wylie in the 70's. My BNL got me hooked on it. I was a die hard night stalker then.
