Default Some Kingfish and a mahi-mahi

Recently my wife and I spent a couple days with our old friend Floyd and his fiance DeAnna on his Contender offshore boat

we were hoping to catch some mahi-mahi. My wife had never been ocean fishing so this trip was to be all about getting her on some fish.

We launched out of Salerno and drove down in very rough seas to the Jupiter inlet where we met up with Floyd's bait guy. We put 1 speedo and a couple dozen goggle eyes in the bait well, then headed out.

When we reached Floyd's "secret" spot he put me at the helm and told me to hit his pre marked waypoints. He then started baiting up and setting out lines for the ladies......it didn't take long and I heard that distinctive sound of line being stripped from one of his accurate fishing reels and his words "Come on Judy, we're about to catch you your first fish from the ocean". She began reeling in line and then the King made another run, stripping out line. She kept at it, and reeled her first kingfish to the side of the boat as Floyd gaffed it and hauled it in. Not a huge king by any stretch of the imagination but to her it was a monster.

And then it was on again, she got the hang pretty quickly.....she was on her second Kingfish and it also went in the icebox.

Took a little while until the 3rd hit, but it happened, and then DeAnna had a mahi- mahi at the side of the boat. Floyd gaffed the third King and put it in the ice box, while DeAnna kept the well hooked mahi-mahi at the edge until Floyd could gaff this one as well.

DeAnna had a appointment at 1:00 so we headed back in, the seas were very rough and we were content to just get out and see if we could get Judy on some fish......that was successful.

Nothing ever hit on the speedo, just the goggle eyes. We were Trolling at about 2 mph, 6 poseidon rods with accurate 600BVD reels, and circle hooks.

We ate the mahi-mahi that night for dinner, froze the Kingfish and brought it home, we will be smoking that for fish dip for parties and outings.
