The fishing on my boat , and most others I spoke with has been for the most part as consistent as the weather. The fish have constantly been on the move from the beach out to 180' plus, one time you`ll pound `em the next...not so much When the weather permitted us to get out we had a couple of decent trips but all in all for me it`s been spotty.
These three brothers were out on a morning where the fish cooperated

The fish were on the move and at times moody, they would only hit in a particular direction, and certain rods. Someone needs to remind them this is May and we're supposed to be fishing for coho, and they shouldn`t be so finicky!

And as far as them staying in a particular location, or being on the feed. This was from a morning trip to which I was still getting hit while cleaning the fish on the way in. I did a quick turn around to the same spot within a 1/2 hour, for the afternoon "101 on the water class" and the bite was gone. Finding the bait disappeared, along with the fish. We worked quite a bit of water, along with a couple of other charters all in various depths with the same results.

So this makes it hard to "Rip and Run" to a new location, by the time you get there the bite may have slowed. And running 5 hr. trips can make it tough when the bite is now some distance away, you just don`t have the time.

I didn`t hear anything going on as I left the harbor for the second "101 on the water class" the following morning so I headed to the North Reef, in the past it`s held fish when we get a Northeast wind. There were boats fishing in 12` and out past 200` so it was a crap shoot. Well they weren`t on the reef, I made a few passes over it from different directions and nada. All we could do from that point was cover water and hope for the best. The coho were scarce as we ended up with only a couple along with some steelies and a decent king. I was hoping for a better catch, but it was one of those days. Everyone I spoke with was doing the same thing, troll and get the occasional poke. A far cry from a couple of weeks back when with the consistent winds we were done in less than a couple hours.

I know some guys found pockets, worked them, and did well on some days just as I did. I just hope this weather stabilizes and everything becomes more consistent. With the warm weather we had so early on, I keep forgetting we're only in the middle of May!
