The gods were upon us on Saturday, a beautiful day to be out, winds were basically light, and for the first week in May it was very warm and comfortable. Perfect conditions for a family outing! And best of all, the fish were for the most part very active .
As I was making my way up the channel I could see boats trolling right in front of the harbor entrance, I found a clearing and started to set up heading North. As soon as I had the second rod set we had action, it took me close to a half hour before I could get more than one rod in. As I was resetting one the other would go off. I continued to the North until I was able to get my spread set and turned back around, staying between 16`-20`. The action was strong for about an hour and a half and we were stuck at 21 in the box leaving probably over 10 swimming around with sore mouths. The action was still decent, it was just a little easier on me, I didn`t have one or two rods out of the water waiting to be set on a regular basis. Initially the fish were very active, and anything you put out would get hit, after it slowed, it appeared the 2" slider type flies were working better. Blue, green, and the blue/green liz flies now took most of the hits. Dipseys on a #3 no ring out 25` were strong, and `riggers down 7`-12`, back 5`-10`.

The late morning trip was just as good as the first, I made a call and heard the bite had slowed if front and that a boat was doing better South of the harbor, and to call them back and let them know what I found. I set up in 20` and didn`t have a whole lot going on for the first half hour, I brought it in to the mid to upper teens and that`s where my spread started to get wiped out. I`d have 3-4 rods going at once and the most we counted was 6 when I had all the boards on one side and 2 `riggers taking hits. There was a definitive mud line in 18`and the fish were just outside of it, as soon as we`d pass thru it we`d get hit. Despite one of the guys loosing more fish than he caught, we still managed all theirs and some for me to take home in a few hours. This was a bachelor party, set up by a previous bachelor who was a little more coherent this time around. At least he didn`t end up grabbing 4 rods before he found the one with the fish on it :D The other guys brought that up a few times during the trip so I figured I`d mention it as well

All in all it was a great day to be out, plenty of action, and two great groups of people. I had to tend to a family function on Sunday, so my fun out on the Lake was limited to just one day this weekend.
