    Default Help on rod repair…

I have some paint chipping on the grip of one of my rods. It is from where my wedding ring rubs against the rod. Any idea on how to fix this?

Remove the wedding ring… just joking. Could you use a little touch up paint? Maybe add a little pad of some sort to rest finger on? Another option is wearing a silicone ring like groove rings. Love mine and my wife loves hers. Very comfortable to wear.

I’m thinking touch up paint will be the way to go but no idea what kind to get. Yeah the ring actually hurts my finger a little while fishing but love hurts right :/ lol

Seriously unless you’re against it check out the silicone rings. Much more comfortable and unless we’re going somewhere nice that’s all my wife and I wear now. There are other brands but we wear groove rings. And lifetime warranty.

    VaCrappieMan,
no larger of spot it is, a high gloss, looks like, model paint or almost any paint of similar color wouldn’t be obvious. Let it dry GOOD and stop its gassing process, and then coat with epoxy. Just be careful when applying to keep it only on the part you wish to protect from your ring.

I’ve used a paint that I e found to be tougher than anything else. It’s appliance epoxy paint, I got mine at lowes and I’m sure Home Depot might carry it too. Lightly sand and feather the edges, clean with a solvent and make sure it’s dry. Tape off anything you don’t want painted, this stuff is super sticky. Apply lightly til you get the coverage you need and let it harden and then, maybe the next day, give it some sunshine to finish it off. I’ve used it in white in sun exposed areas and sold the boat two years later and it still looked great. Less than ten bucks a can. I’ve also seen it in black and gray also.
