Default T Russell TR 56 super area trout xul spinning rod 29 grams

This build is minus the rear/fore grips and I removed 4 threads of the reel seat that was not needed for a 500 size spinning reel. Total weight was 29 grams for the 5’6” 2 piece rod.

Is this your second build for the same blank? Did you go with 8 guides + tip, or 10 guides + tip?

I really like how the line follows the bending curve with 10 guides.

Waiting for a few warmer days to add finish to the wraps. Wife won’t let me do it in the house where it’s warmer T Russell TR 56 super area trout xul spinning rod 29 grams

Same blank, started out at 35 grams and downsized/modified components, down to 29 grams now and no more fat to trim off. This one has 8 guides + tip. Leaving the twa 662 at 35 grams, could go down to 31 grams but like the feel and balance. Matagi doesn’t list your super swamp blank material but probably the highest tonnage there is to this point.

I am looking forward to using the super swamp blank in the coming weeks. It is a stiffer than the TWA 662 but perhaps not as stiff as MajorCraft Finetail SUL. Will know better once I get to fish it.

That’s a featherweight. Wish I’d thought about shortening the reel seat on mine. Mine is a Fenwick black and I think it gonna come in just over two ounces. I also can’t wait.

Sawing off 4 threads only took off 2 grams but I wanted to see how light it would go. My other 6’6” I left the components alone and it weighs 35 grams. If I slimmed that down it would be 31 grams but I like the way it feels now at 35 grams.

I’m gathering ideas for a 6’6” or so to build with a Presso 1000s as the reel. Lots more research before I go much further but it will happen one day.
