They are very pleasing to the eye. They do set a rod apart. Definitely gives it that custom look.

As suggested an open wrap is the easiest to do. Maybe there is a local custom rod builder that would be willing to walk you through the layout and wrapping process?

The best book I found on rod building Rod-Building Guide by Tom Kirkham. appears to be out of print now but can be found on Amazon. Look for a used copy. The last chapter details laying out and wrapping a diamond wrap which makes for a nice look. New retail in 2001 was $14.95.
