Look up "Get Bent" on ebay. Here in st louis mo, blanks 9' etc are about $33.00 + $8.95 shipping. Have buit 10 or more. They are 4 pce 7 wgt fly rod blanks. Never had a breakage. Do nothing but make crappie rods! Good luck. Just an added note, look at Airwave guides ($16.00); they are adifferent methof of casting and eliminate the line flap as the first guide is 19 inches rather than the 31 inch spacing most commercial builders use.
    Good luck

I like the Rainshadow blanks. Rodgeeks and MHX are also good.

I'll second the Rainshadows. Any of their ultralight rated models should do nicely. I've become a big fan of the Revelation 6'8" UL.

A said the rainshadow and hmx light blanks are a number of peoples go to blanks for the price point. I personally like the rainshadow blanks over the HMX myself. As to guides, its a personal choice. I've built the same rod with a number of different guide trains and never seen one out do the next in casting distance personally. There is a lot of hear say about it, so don't buy stock in all that. I stick to Fuji because it's what everything is compared to. Yes you pay a higher cost but In the end I've never had someone say I'm not buying that rod because it has Fuji components.

    Ok
I looked at Rainshadows, the tip is 4.5.
That seems a little bigger than expected.
    What am i missing?
Crappie jigging rod, very light bite.

    Thanks

Tips are measured in 64th of an inch and not mm, for whatever reason. So that's 4.5/64"

    Ok.
    I've seen some at 3.5 or 4.
    Smaller tip= better visible bite?
    I'm a rod tip watcher.

I guess it will probably depend alot on the taper of the blank, but I'm assuming the smaller size will show bites better. I would also bet that smaller will be alot more prone to breakage. Never wrapped one with under a 4.5 tip, personally.

If memory serves, the tip of the 4 piece, 4wt HMX was 4.5. Those tip windings were tough, took a bunch or tries. Response of the tiny tip is nice. The thought ran through my mind of tying up another in spinning. Weighs nothing.
