I get to build one for myself here and there but not like I used to. I just enjoy building them, 90% of the rods I build are trout, flounder and redfish rods. Its something to do at home to hang out with my dogs if I'm not fishing.

Where do I start. One of my buddies had been borrowing my wife’s kayak and been fishing with me on some weekends. He enjoyed it and purchased his own kayak this year. Then, they purchased another for his wife later this year. When she isn’t working she goes fishing with us as well. Anyway he only had a couple of older rods so I asked if I could enter him into the contest. I think that act is what won the contest. Well knowing we won and not spilling the beans is hard to do for me but I managed. The rod came today and I managed to get together with my buddy this evening and let him open it. WOW, I must say it is an amazing rod. We are both blown away. Neither of us have held such a quality rod before. Light, but with some backbone it feels like. Guides all over the rod. I’ve never seen so many small guides. The orange just pops off the rod. As the sun was setting they seemed to glow even more. I’m going to let him pick whatever reel he wants (within reason) and buy it for him. My buddy will have a nice rod and reel setup. I had asked Brent if he would include a letter in the package detailing the rod. I must say his letter went above and beyond and was very touching and wonderfully written. I want to truly thank from the bottom of my heart Brent for this beautiful rod and this wonderful act of giving it away. You are truly a golden heart individual and we can’t thank you enough. Now it’s time to test it out!

If you are in need of a nice rod I highly urge you to check out Corley Custom Rods. Brent is a good guy and I think he would take care of you right!

Very nice gesture to give it away, and a happy recipient also. Good luck with it and many big fish. Very nice rod.

David is the real hero, what he did showed his true colors and a ton of heart. In a world full of negativity, we truly need more acts of kindness like this. All I did was build the rod. David had the real hard part of this keeping all of his excitement under control. I know how bad I am at keeping my mouth shut lol and he 100% pulled it off. I don't want to take away from the real story and that's the story he told. I think everyone can learn a little something from what he did. Our job as fisher men is to grow our sport and help someone in need. So to you David I say thank you for being a class act and keep doing what your doing man.
Thanks SuperDave336 thanked you for this post

We were able to get out yesterday and fish a little. I let him borrow my Pfleuger President on it which balances great. After holding it and using it that’s what he decided on so this morning I ordered from grizzly jig him one with 2&4# line so he can pick what he wants on it. Not the best of fishing but he said rod felt very sensitive and he was able to cast 1/32 fairly easy. Fishing for crappie but he managed to catch one bass with it that put one good fight and doubled the rod over. Big difference from the bass rods he has. I think he is going to be very happy with this new gear. What I felt was very nice and cast good. I’m sure we will be able to tell more in time. Thanks Brent.
